Biography

I moved from Cambridgeshire to Lancaster for my BSc in psychology. I then completed a PhD under supervision from Prof. Chris Plack, who was at Lancaster University for the first year of my PhD before taking his current post as Ellis Llwyd Jones Chair in Audiology at the University of Manchester, and Prof. Deb Hall at the MRC Institute of Hearing Research in Nottingham (although she has since moved to the National Biomedical Research Unit in Hearing, in Nottingham).  My PhD was titled "Methodological Considerations for fMRI Studies of Pitch Processing" and was published under my maiden name, Daphne Garcia, as was my first paper.

My thesis was made up of four papers and one book chapter, of which three papers have been published in peer-reviewed journals, the fourth paper is in preparation for submission and the book chapter is in the final stages of editing.  It will constitute Chapter 7 (Coding of Basic Acoustical and Perceptual Components of Sound in Human Auditory Cortex) in the Springer Handbook of Auditory Research: The Human Auditory Cortex.

I am currently working on a project titled "Detecting the early effects of occupational noise damage to hearing" with Dr. Kathryn Hopkins, Prof. Chris Plack and Dr. Richard Baker.
