Research successes: January 2010
January 2010
Papers accepted
Matt Lambon Ralph, Karen Sage, and Emily Mayberry had their paper accepted into PNAS (M.A. Lambon Ralph, K. Sage, R.W. Jones & E.J. Mayberry (in press). "Coherent concepts are computed in the anterior temporal lobes." PNAS.) whilst Gorana Pobric had her paper “Amodal semantic representations depend on both left and right anterior temporal lobes: new rTMS evidence.” accepted into “Neuropsychologia”. Congratulations to you all. Further success in CNLD came when Raymond Clarke had a chapter published in a book on children’s social interactions (Clarke, M. and Wilkinson, R. (2009) ‘Chapter 13: Communication aid use in children's conversation: Time, timing and speaker transfer’ in ‘Analysing Interactions in Childhood: insights from conversation analysis’, Gardner, H. (ed.)). Last but not least for CNLD, Richard Binney had his paper accepted into Cerebral Cortex (R.J. Binney, K.V. Embleton, E. Jefferies, G.J.M. Parker, & M.A. Lambon Ralph (in press). "The inferolateral aspects of the anterior temporal lobe are crucial in semantic memory: Evidence from a novel direct comparison of distortion-corrected fMRI, rTMS and semantic dementia." in Cerebral Cortex.).
Warren Mansell of CHP had success in January when his paper on psychological distress (a staff collaboration with Alex Wood) was accepted into Clinical Psychology Review (Higginson, S., Mansell, W., & Wood, A. (2009) “An integrative mechanistic account of psychological distress, therapeutic change and recovery: the Perceptual Control Theory approach”).
In the Audiology and Deafness research group special congratulations should go to Piers Dawes and Kevin Munro who both had papers listed in the “Best of Audiology 2009” list featured in the January issue of ENT and Audiology News. These were Dawes et al. (2009) “Temporal auditory and visual motion of children diagnosed with auditory processing disorders and dyslexia.” (Ear & Hearing 2009, 30, 675-686) and Munro, KJ. and Blount J. (2009) “Adaptive plasticity in brainstem of adult listeners following earplug-induced deprivation.” (Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2009; 126, 568-571.). Kevin also had success with 2 other papers in January, one with PhD student Alicija Malicka and Richard Baker (Malicka A , Munro KJ and Baker RJ. Diagnosing dead regions in hearing-impaired children. Ear and Hearing 2010, 31, (in Press- available online)) and also Munro, KJ. and Howlin, EM. Comparison of real-ear to coupler difference values in the right and left ear of hearing aid users. (Ear and Hearing 2010, 31 , 146-150.).
