This programme is available full- and part-time on campus and is now available to students across the UK and Ireland through a two-year online course.

Course aims

The course is designed to ensure exciting cutting edge research and practice are brought together. The course is underpinned by the concept of Informed Choice for all parents of deaf children.

We actively seek to promote high expectations of all deaf children and to ensure teachers of the Deaf are equipped to meet the exciting challenges of the profession.

Structure

Available either one-year full-time or two years part-time, the course consists of the following 8 units, each carrying 15 credits:

  • Audiological management
  • Language acquisition (spoken and sign)
  • Language assessment
  • Developing Deaf Child
  • Curricular Access
  • Policy and Practice
  • Teaching placement: specialist experience
  • Teaching placement: extending practice
