Michelle Campbell

Clinical Psychology (PhD)

Michelle came to the University as an undergraduate student in psychology. Now in the final stages of her PhD she is hoping to leave the University as a fully trained clinical psychologist.

Why Manchester?

The University has a good work ethic and supporting facilities and you are spoilt for choice when considering where to spend your leisure time, whether it's eating, drinking or shopping.

What drives you?

My area of study is clinical psychology and my research has an emphasis in understanding the impact of life experiences on unusual experiences and beliefs. I am a naturally inquisitive person and have always wanted to know why a particular event or consequence occurred. My motivation for my research comes from a desire to satisfy my curiosity and to understand why specific psychological problems transpire in the hope that this will enhance treatment of these difficulties.

What other research have you done?

As my area of interest is clinical psychology I've been mainly concerned with understanding specific symptoms of psychosis. However, I have also been involved in research projects examining face recognition and logical reasoning.

What next?

The next step after my PhD is to go on to train as a clinical psychologist. The application process starts in September and Manchester will certainly be on my list of institutions to apply to.

I have enjoyed my time studying in Manchester and this is mainly because of the supportive environment in my department. People are very willing to give advice and offer encouragement.
