Finding a supervisor

If you are applying for a PhD programme, please make sure that you have already contacted a potential supervisor within the School. For help finding a supervisor contact:
pg.psychology@manchester.ac.uk

Entry requirements

In general, applicants need to hold a 2:1 or better to do a PhD. However, some people have additional qualifications which can compensate for a poorer first degree.

Applying

Research proposal

Applicants need to write an outline of their proposed research programme to attach to the application. This should be no more than 1,000 words. Please email the outline (and other supporting documentation including references and copies of degree certificates) to the School's graduate administrator. The proposal forms a very important part of the application process and (if eligible) will be used in the decision process associated with funding the research. For information about research proposals, contact: pg.psychology@manchester.ac.uk

Interviews

Offers will only be made to potential candidates subject to a satisfactory admissions interview. The interview panel will consist of, at the least, the student's potential supervisor, the School's postgraduate tutor (alternatively, the director of graduate matters or the School's postgraduate trainer) and an additional staff member. If candidates have questions about any of the specific courses, please contact the course representatives in the School. For interview queries, contact: pg.psychology@manchester.ac.uk
