The diversity of our research across the broad spectrum of psychological sciences provides our postgraduate students with a rich and stimulating study environment.

We have an acclaimed national and international reputation for excellence in research, as demonstrated in the government’s most recent assessment of university research in the UK. The School performed strongly, with over 70% of staff rated as internationally excellent or world leading. Studying for an MPhil or PhD degree with us will give you the opportunity to work with internationally renowned scholars, engaged in cutting edge research.

As part of the Economic and Social Research Centre (ESRC) North West Doctoral Training Centre, our students commonly attract funding from this scheme. However, our students are also funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and other sources. We attract both UK and international students, with around 100 students currently registered for MPhil and PhD degrees.

See Application process for more information about how to apply for one of our research degrees.
