How to apply:
Self funded applicants, or those not eligible for SLA funding, should apply online. This well-established Masters-level module is available to all audiology professionals working in clinical practice with deaf children. It has the advantage of being an eLearning course so that students can study in their own locality and at a time convenient to them.
Paediatric hearing aid fitting and the management of amplification from identification to transition is a specialist area of audiology which has expanded since the introduction of digital signal processing hearing aids and the early identification of deaf infants through the national screening programmes.
The eLearning module provides continuing professional development to professionals in Audiology and it will contribute to the British Academy of Audiology higher training scheme.
Structure
The module consists of 12 topics delivered on a fortnightly basis followed by a final assignment. The module carries 15 credits at M level. This module can also be taken as a non credit bearing CPD only module.

Target audience and entry requirements
The module is aimed at registered audiologists, clinical scientists and others wishing to further their knowledge in this area of paediatric audiology.
As the course is delivered entirely online, access to an internet connection and a web browser is required. You should have sufficient IT skills to be comfortable using MS word, the internet and communicating by email. Local access to paediatric hearing aid clinics and equipment is also required.
On successful completion of this study practitioners will be able to:
- Apply a rounded approach to the management of a child’s amplification from identification to transition, by placing the needs of the deaf child at the centre of the process
- Critically evaluate current research literature and recent developments in audiology from both scientific and professional viewpoints and apply the evidence to clinical practice
- Demonstrate systematic, advanced knowledge of hearing aid fitting procedures including fitting strategy, verification and evaluation
- Apply new knowledge and understanding to their clinical practice and make a positive contribution to their department and to families of deaf children with whom they interact

Course fees and funding
Self-funded applicants, or those being sponsored by their employers, are welcome to apply for this module. The fee for September 2012 is £950.
