Champions zone
What is a ‘Champion’?
A Champion is someone who has expertise and is confident and competent in a particular area of audiology for example, paediatric assessment or early habilitation, and who is willing to share this knowledge and experience with other audiologists.
Why do we need ‘Champions’?
- for audiology departments which feel less confident in eg early audiological assessment, and recognise the need to develop their clinical skills and practice
- for departments which see a low critical mass of cases per annum, contact with another department is a means of maintaining competency and sharing experience
- to enable all audiologists and departments to share experiences across sites with the aim of providing a high quality service
What will a ‘Champion’ do?
The support offered may take the form of:
- visits to another department to give ‘on elbow‘ support
- regular support and advice via email or phone
- one off visits to the Champion’s for observation and discussion
Champions can be from any professional group working within a paediatric audiology service. The time commitment and availability of the Champion will vary according to their commitments.
If you would like to be a champion by offering support to fellow professionals, please contact Amy.Mclauchlan@manchester.ac.uk
You will need the support of your manager; confidence in the clinical application of the NHSP and MCHAS protocols/guidelines; a willingness to share your expertise; received a NHSP QA visit.
How to contact a Champion
If you have a query; need some support; would like to develop your knowledge and expertise or would like reassurance then contact the appropriate Champion directly using their email link. It would be helpful to tell them you have found their details via this website.
