What is involved?
- You have self referred or have been referred to us by a member of health or social care or educational staff (for instance, your General Practitioner or a teacher) as they believe you may be having some difficulties.
- If you decide to take part, this will involve filling out 8 questionnaires and talking to somebody for about 1 ½ hours.
- Following this, we will arrange to see you once a month for a period of 2 years (on a monthly basis for the 1st 6 months and then every 3 months) to monitor how things are for you.
- In order to compensate you for your time and any expenses incurred, you will receive a payment of £20 at the end of the initial assessments and then at the 1 year and 2 year assessments.
- The sessions will be carried out somewhere that is suitable for you.
What does the treatment involve?
- Sometimes because we don’t know which way treating patients is best, we need to make comparisons.
- The people who choose to take part will be put into groups. The groups are selected by a computer which has no information about the individual, i.e., by chance.
- Half of the people we see will be offered a talking treatment. This will include information about how to manage stress, sleeping difficulties and other common problems that people experience as well as a chance to focus on whatever is of most concern to you at the moment.
- Everyone who takes part in the trial will receive monitoring which will provide an opportunity for you to discuss any problems you may be experiencing at the moment.
Please note: The treatment from the EDIE 2 trial does not involve medication.
