Patients and participants
The pages here are for people who may have problems with their speech and language after a stroke. The text is larger and will be coloured in places.
Background
Stroke is a leading cause of disability in the United Kingdom. Many stroke survivors have problems with speech and communication. Speech and Language Therapy is typically provided for post stroke patients with communication problems. However there is a lack of good quality research to show that Speech and Language Therapy works. The National Health Service (NHS) needs good quality research in order to improve services.
To try and improve the body of evidence around Speech and Language Therapy, the Department of Health (DoH) asked for the ACT NoW Study to be carried out. They are also paying for the study and it will cost around £1 million.
These pages have been developed through talks with our Research User Group who gave us advice how to create a website suitable for people with communication problems. See 'Who is Involved' - The Research User Group, for more information
